Yes, apparently I am INFECTED. “Infected”, you ask? Why, yes I was infected with the TRAVEL BUG! It started when I first traveled to Bali, Indonesia while I was living in Japan from 2002-2004. I had traveled back and forth to Japan for family reasons before that, but Bali was the first international country besides Japan that I had no prior knowledge about! The first morning in Bali, I woke up early as to not disturb my two traveling companions Gina and Rieko. I propped up my feet on our balcony wearing socks and sandals. I stared at a Indonesian cow walking around in a circle because it had a rope on its neck and it was tied to a stake. I heard chickens crowing in the background and everything that I was looking at was SO FOREIGN and SO FASCINATING!
I couldn’t help myself. I was waiting for the first Indonesian person to walk by so I could yell out “Pagi Pagi” which means good morning. At the very moment that I yelled out “Pagi Pagi”, the bug infected me and I have been traveling since! I long to go back to Bali and it is definitely on my bucket list.
I have lived in Japan for two years and have seen some interesting things that I cannot possibly explain unless I was sitting down with you explaining some of the crazy stories in detail over a cup of tea or coffee. The phrase that best captures some of the stories in Japan is “Only in Japan”.
I am a teacher of high school students. I have experience teaching AP World History, AVID, College prep level U.S. History and World History, Sheltered World and U.S History (modified instruction for second language learners) and AP European History. I also taught at a Japanese High School for two years as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher). I love teaching and sharing my life experiences with students!
I love ANTHONY BOURDAIN with a PASSION. My current fascination is Spain and I love to eat, talk about culture and listen to people’s stories. My future locations of travel are hopefully Turkey, South Africa, Costa Rica, Peru and Brazil.
